I am the artist I set out to be (thanks to you)

Thu Dec 24, 2009, 6:59 AM
I just want to say thank you to all of you who were and are kind enough to inspire me to be the best artist I can be.

I would rather have ten fans who like my art AND Amanda Palmer than a million fans who like crappier music.

years ago I told you guys that I'd switch to paintings instead of drawings and that's where I'm at now. It took me a long time to feel comfortable with paints but now it feels right. I'm working on dozens of oil paintings right now, my whole apartment is full of them!

Cat records 1954

Sat Jul 31, 2004, 8:42 AM
You heard Sh-Boom by the Chords but have you heard "Zippity Zum"? the follow up song that is a lot like Sh-Boom? (sounds like ZOOM, just spelled like we spell things today for fun) I was listening to it on the way to drop off some stuff for a charity auction and suddenly saw (in my mind) a drawing of bunnies and bears and things like that singing the song, i will draw it....and the song was on Cat records, how cool is that!! ha ha!@!

Cat issued “Zippity Zum” and “Bless You” in September 1954. They were reviewed (with “Zippity Zum” receiving an “excellent”) on September 18. (This doesn't mean that the reviewers necessarily thought it was a better song than “Sh-Boom.” The ratings weren't meant for record buyers, but for record distributors, juke box owners, and record store managers. Therefore, not only was the artist's performance rated, but their potential to grab customers' money based on prior performance was also factored in.) Other reviews that week went to the Spiders' “The Real Thing,” the Hawks' “Give It Up,” Richard Berry & the Dreamers' “At Last,” the Heralds' “Eternal Love,” the Diablos' “The Wind,” the Romeos' “Love Me,” the Du Droppers' “Boot 'Em Up,” and the Native Boys' “Native Girl.” “Zippity Zum” was a Tip in Los Angeles on October 9.
